Publish with Nordicom

For more than five decades, Nordicom has been a hub for Nordic media and communication studies. Our overarching mission is to advance and disseminate research-based knowledge about the role and framework conditions of media and communication in the Nordic region. Our academic publishing is a central part of this mission.

Nordicom is a publicly funded, non-profit publisher and a strategic partner to the Nordic Council of Ministers. This partnership allows us to publish all our academic books and journals with Diamond Open Access – free of charge for both authors and readers. In doing so, we aim to offer a sustainable alternative in the international market for scholarly literature. Our academic publishing is operated by an in-house editorial team located in Gothenburg.

Publishing with us

I want to publish in a journal

Nordicom publishes two Open Access journals, Nordicom Review and Nordic Journal of Media Studies. Both journals undergo double-blind peer review.

Nordicom Review is devoted to new Nordic media and communication research and has an open submission policy year-round.

Nordic Journal of Media Studies publishes one thematic issue per year and only accepts submissions in response to a Call for papers.

I want to edit a special issue

Special issues of Nordicom Review are thematic issues. The Call for papers, peer review, and manuscript evaluation are handled by external editors in collaboration with an editor at Nordicom.

I want to publish a book

The aim of Nordicom’s academic book publishing is to promote new, high-quality media and communication research contributing to sustainable democratic societies in the Nordic region. We publish single- and multi-authored monographs and edited volumes, depending on the intended audience and topic. We welcome contributions from both individual scholars and research projects or networks.

How we differ

We know the Nordics better than anybody.
We are an international publisher, but with a distinct regional focus. Our editorial team are experts in Nordic conditions and Nordic media and communication research. We bring this knowledge to each stage of development, editing, and promotion of our academic publications.

We take an active and hands-on approach.
Unlike most commercial academic publishers, we have a limited line of production, based on quality rather than quantity. This enables our editorial team to provide you as an editor or author with a custom-made service in all steps of the publication process, focusing on tone, format, language, and promotion in additional to content integrity.

We are more than just a publisher.
Nordicom occupies a unique position at the intersection of academia, public administration, and the media industry in the Nordic countries. As a strategic partner to the Nordic Council of Ministers, we have direct access to policymakers across our region. This gives us a platform to highlight your research that other publishers don’t have.

“The Nordicom team was highly supportive throughout our book process. We had monthly meetings, feedback on individual chapters, thorough peer reviews, excellent final manuscript editing, a swift publication process, and a final symposium to promote the book. All in all, we were very happy with our choice of publisher!”
Sofie Flensburg, assistant professor, University of Copenhagen

“Publishing with Nordicom is a pleasure, as the team works efficiently, takes a hands-on approach, and provides highly valuable feedback throughout the entire process”
